Oh Canada ... time to celebrate with a fun Canada Day party. With being the second largest country in the world by area, there are so many ways to show your patriotism. Being named after “Kanata” an Iroquoian word meaning “village”, invite your friends and family to learn, remember, and party. This national holiday takes place July 1st, commemorating confederation back in 1867.

Canada Day Party Decorations

Canada Day maple leaf quilt and teddy bear decorations
  • Use the color theme of red and white from the Canadian Flag
  • Hang red and white streamers
  • Have handheld Canadian flags for guests
  • Hang a large Canadian flag
  • White table cloths with a bright red table runner
  • Use maple leaf themed cups and napkins
  • Use red cutlery and white plates
  • Have red sunglasses and maple bandas for the guests as party hats
  • Wrap large mason jars with elastics or string. Then, spray paint them with frosted glass spray paint. Once dried remove the elastics or string and place a fake candle inside.
  • Twinkle lights
  • Have a steel bucket with frozen red and white water balloons. Fill it with your drinks and once the balloons melt, use them to have a water balloon fight. 
  • Play music from Canadian artists 
  • Have lots of glow sticks - mainly red 
  • Put little Canadian flags instead of umbrellas in drinks for decorations 
  • Have helium balloons that say “OH CANADA”
  • In an old maple syrup can, have red and white flowers 
  • Have Canada pained mini sticks 



Canada Day Party Games and Activities

  • Outdoor picnic games - three legged race, bean bag toss, etc.
  • Pin the tail on the beaver
  • Water balloons fight with red and white balloons
  • Plant a maple tree - either have maple seeds or seedling and gardening tools
  • Go for a hike or nature walk
  • Set up croquet or a mini golf course in your backyard
  • Making some music - get out your instruments and have an outdoor jam
  • Face painting station - have red and white face paint, paint brushes, chairs, and have a few friends in charge of painting peoples faces.
  • Nail painting - have red and white gel nail polish, maple leaf stickers, and a nail light. This way the guests can get their nails painted and dried right away so the fun can continue. 
  • Glow stick dancing - get all decked out in glow sticks and when its dark play some Canadian music and dance
  • Sparklers - when it gets dark, give everyone a sparkler to play with. After, have a designated spot to put the sparklers that is out of the way, so they can properly cool off before disposing. 
  • Canadian inspired tattoo station - have temporary tattoos of Canadian flags, beavers, moose, Canada map, geese, and the Bluenose ship. 
  • Make a Canada flag - use rectangle white paper, paint the sides red, paint hand red for the maple leaf and place your hand in the middle. 
  • Red and white bead bracelets - have bowls with different sizes and shapes of red and white beads. String the beads onto necklace string and tie when done.
  • Backyard camp out - have guests bring their own tents and other supplies
  • Light a bonfire and roast s’mores
  • Light some fireworks or go see fireworks 



Canada Day Party Food

  • Nachos and dip - layer in large baking pan: cottage cheese on bottom, your favorite salsa in middle, shredded medium cheddar on top. Keep covered in the fridge until needed.
  • Red and white salad - layer slices of tomato and mozzarella cheese
  • Canadian breakfast bar - have eggs, Canadian bacon, red and white baby potatoes, pancakes and maple syrup, and juice. 
  • Poutine bar - have french fries, shredded cheese and cheese curds, bacon, green onion, etc. 
  • Friendly BBQ - hamburger, hot dogs, bell peppers, and corn
  • Steak, potatoes, and tomatoes dinner
  • Steamed lobster - boil in hot water for approximately 10 minutes
  • Tim Hortons - frozen drinks and tim bits (often they will have Canada themed inspired ones around Canada day)
  • Red and white pasta - make pasta salad using red and white bowtie noodles
  • Maple leaf watermelon - take slices of watermelon and cut the shape of a maple leaf using a cookie cutter
  • Have a bucket of red apples
  • Canadian chocolate covered strawberries - dip strawberries in white candy melts and then sprinkle with red sprinkles.
  • Canada flag cake - make a rectangle cake and decorate it with red strawberries or red candies to create the Canadian flag.
  • Canadian mini cupcakes - use white vanilla icing and place a red jelly maple leaf candy on top, or sprinkle with red sprinkles.
  • Red and white sundae bar - have vanilla ice cream, cut up strawberries, red and white sprinkles, and maple syrup.
  • Make a dessert with maple syrup, like maple shortbread cookies or maple syrup pudding
  • Have red and white popsicles
